Bishops Wood Best Kept Village Committee      WINNERS IN 2007 and 2008

BKV 2009 (article as published by the committee in the September Bugle 2009: ‘Almost but not quite; this year we achieved second place in the small village category in the South Staffordshire district with Lapley taking first place and also the title of overall county winner in the small village category. Coven again took the first place in the large village category for the fifth consecutive year and was again the overall district winner.

The awards ceremony was held on Monday 3rd August at a packed council chamber in the main county buildings in central Stafford with representatives from the competing villages in attendance.

The judges commented that the scoring was very close again this year with little to separate the top three places. Their detailed comments for each village will not be available until late September or early October so we do not yet know the areas which could be improved.

Thank you to everyone who helped out in whatever way this year but we really do need a few more volunteers. Both Lapley and Coven Heath which have smaller populations have groups of around ten to twelve volunteers who actively help out during the competition period. We only have a quarter of this number in Bishops Wood.

Further details of areas where volunteers could assist will be published early next year before the 2010 competition gets under way so please consider lending your support if you can.

Thank you.

BISHOPS WOOD FOR BEST KEPT SMALL VILLAGE 2010’

BKV 2007 and 2008: In 2007 Bishops Wood and its residents won the Best Kept Small Village in South Staffordshire - on its first time of entering, quite an achievement.  We were delighted to report that Bishops Wood then followed up this success by winning the Best Kept Small Village in South Staffordshire Competition 2008. The support of the local community was key to this achievement as well as the organisational efforts of Jeanette Edwards, Tony Sloane and Linda England.

The only way the village can hope to achieve such success again is if everyone continues to get involved and makes the same tremendous contribution as before. If everyone can continue to care of the village on a day to day basis then we're heading in the right direction. To find out more information about the competition and the specific criteria the village needs to satisfy please follow this link: 2009 BKV Marking Criteria. Bishops Wood Christmas Lights Committee

The Christmas Lights Committee are just finalising the accounts for 2007/2008 and expect to have a small amount of money to carry forward and add to the Christmas Lights grant the Parish Council will once again be making available. Some new investments were made this year to add to our stock of lights - a list of what we have and where it is stored will be filed at the Parish Council for future reference. Thank you everyone who store lights during the year and who are kind enough to put them up or allow them to be plugged in to private supplies for the festive season - your support is very much appreciated.
