In the days of the
Wakefields, it was Margaret Wakefield who was mostly responsible for
running the post office. There used to be a bake house at the rear of the shop
where Kathleen Wakefield baked bread and cakes for the shop. John Wakefield
worked the garden where there were some 50 bee hives for the production of the
honey and free range chickens providing the eggs for the shop. Mary Wakefield,
when she was not in the shop, was kept very busy with embroidery and tapestry.
She did a lot of work for the church. She also wrote a book called "Ancient
Brewood" under the pen name of Mara.
