VILLAGE DESIGN STATEMENT
Introduction
Brewood has its own V.D.S. At a meeting on 21st February 2001, over
1000 people gave their support to the setting up of a Village Design Group to
draft a Statement. The group met on 26th February 2001, appointing Peter Jackson as its chairman and
John Redshaw as secretary. Copies are available from the Parish Council Offices,
35 Stafford Street, Brewood.
What is a VDS?
- It is an illustrated statement, produced by the whole community, setting
down how we would like the village to look in the future, as it evolves.
- It describes:
- the distinctive character of the village;
- how it fits into its surroundings;
- the nature, characteristics and details of the buildings themselves and the
open spaces between them.
What is a VDS for?
- To give the whole community a recognised voice in the planning
process.
- To be used as Supplementary Planning Guidance, meaning that it has to be
taken into account when all planning applications are considered.
- To demonstrate local commitment to high quality design and
development.
