EDUCATION IN COVEN

    St. Paul’s CE (C) First School, School Lane                         The School enjoys a rural setting

A small school built in 1970 to replace the original school building, it is administered by Staffordshire L.E.A. and caters for approximately 250 pupils rising from 5 to 9 years. There is also a nursery provision, for children from 3 years.

A medium sized school housed in the original Brewood Grammar School which was founded in 1553. The school now caters for pupils in the age range 9 to 13 years. It won a Schools Curriculum Award in 1997 and was praised by Ofsted in 1999 as having ‘a very good ethos for learning with a strong emphasis on high expectations and high standards’

Several pre-school playgroups operate in the village: Coven Mothers and Toddlers is held in the Memorial Hall on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9-30am – 11.30am and the Peter Pan Playgroup, also held in the Memorial Hall, is held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 9.20am – 11.50am. There is a waiting list for the latter and children have to be two years and six months of age before they are admitted. There are several privately run child minding services operating in Coven and information on these can be obtained from Social Services.
