Sept 15th   NOBODY KILLED AT BLACK ROCK!

Brighton and Hove City Council are applying to have the undercliff path behind the Marina closed PERMANENTLY because they cannot guarantee the safety of walkers – there is a very real danger of a lump of chalk falling onto someone’s head, they claim.  Brighton Urban Wildlife Group, along with many other like-minded citizens, are suggesting that perhaps this solution is a little extreme. Click on Black rock cliffs to read the full story or find out what you can do to help by clicking on Draft letters.

Sept 1st. BRIGHTON UNIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT REFUSED

On July 6th, Brighton University submitted a planning application to build student accommodation on the Watts Bank on the Moulsecoomb campus.  Watts Bank is recognised in the Local Plan as a Site of Nature Conservation Importance (SNCI).  The grid reference is TQ344066.  The land is approximately one hectare of rough grassland, woodland and scrub which creates a diversity of habitats within the town. It is part of the chain of habitat between Wild Park and the town centre, forming an important and diverse link. The application was rejected by one vote at council offices on September 1st. The University are bound to resubmit another application in the near future. For more information click here.

Seed Gathering Sunday - 10th October
The Tree Council has designated the second Sunday in October as Seed Gathering Sunday, a time to collect seeds to grow the new trees of the future.

October is the best time in the year to gather seeds from many of our more common trees. Anyone can take part - it is fun, easy to do and the cheapest way to obtain young trees for planting.  Go for an autumn walk in your local park or wood and take your pick of seeds from some of our best native trees – just a few from each tree will provide you with plenty. It has been a good year for seeds and berries.
