| Details for building a 1/6 Scale Radio Controlled Tank. Servos and speed controllers ? | ||

I want to build the Tank controller from parts I already have or parts
that are very cheap.
Reasons 1)- keep costs down until whole thing is proved to work ! 2)-use existing 6 Channel Futaba Radio [ Dates from 70's as I do !] so no fancy mixing here ! 3)-easy to diagnose faults when thing won't move. 4)-suits my current [pun] electrical skills/knowledge 5)-this part can easily be upgraded later without a complete tear down of tank [ unlike if you get the drive train wrong !] So looking here:- http://www.rctankcombat.com/articles/speed-control/ I chose to build the Tri-Pact Speed control for starters. This description is not entirely accurate as the speed is only on or off , but it does have the required mixing so the tank can been driven from just one stick of the transmitter , this leaves the other one free for gun elevate/traverse. It is really 2 distinct parts :- 2 servos with both fwd and back for each track and a diode mixing circuit which in turn controls 4 auto relays which switch the current to the motors. The relays were photographed before I realised that the motor current for both motors would pass down a single green wire ! and before I had got it labled. The power unit on the left shows 2 KCM'S [ Kiddy Car Motors ] taken from a 12volt motorbike , is was £5.00 from the dump and when I added a battery from the dump could carry me around my cul-de-sac with ease. These have been joined together to make a easily removed unit and will probably have the above relays mounted on it as well. | |
