Pre-School

The Bromley Methodist Church Pre-school is a Christian based group which is part of the Pre-School Learning Alliance.

We are part of the National Curriculum therefore the activities we provide are geared to the Foundation Stage and aim to:

Before children go to school, they need to mix with other children and adults, developing relationships and experimenting with different ideas and materials like sand, clay dough, paint and water - the messy things it isn't always possible to provide at home, but which encourage children to learn.

We also provide a climbing frame, dressing up clothes, books, a variety of puzzles, matching games, constructional toys and a home corner with cooker, sink, etc. The children can make pictures and other things with paper and glue, listen to stories, sing songs and rhymes and play musical instruments. We also have a variety of trucks and tricycles for outside play. From time to time we have visitors in to speak to the children. With good adult supervision we also arrange walking trips, from time to time outside of the group.

• Help them to respect and enjoy the company of adults and children
• Allow them to play individually and in small groups as well as in the large group setting
• Form the basis of mathematical understanding
• Encourage the deveelopment of manipulative skills
• Create habits of listening and concentration
• Develop muscular strength and co-ordination
• Establish the use of symbols and patterns which form the basis of reading and writing
• Extend their understanding of science and the world around them

We operate a rising fives class in which we introduce the knowledge and skills to make that transition into school go as smoothly as possible.
