Supporting the work of Kaithday Children's Home in Sri Lanka
The Bromley Methodist Church Pre-school are creating a link with a children's home in the north of Sri Lanka. The money made from our coffee mornings will be given towards the project.
After the Tsunami last year children, parents and staff made a donation of medical goods and we feel that we would like to continue this in some way, and would ask for your support.
In 2000 the Children's home was almost destroyed by the war between the Sri Lankan Army and the Liberation Tamil Tiger Elam. Major Kokila kept the children safe and moved them through the war zone not losing one child - which she saw as an act of God caring for them.
In 2004 they went back to their newly built Children's home. The home cares for 40 children, half boys and half girls. They all sleep in dormitories and have all their meals in the home. They go to school in the next village taken by the home's mini bus. On Saturdays they have classes in the home.
Every evening once they come back from the school they all have jobs to do, clearing the grounds, sweeping, washing etc, then from about 5pm they play in the playground, cricket, putoo, chase! Etc. At 6-7pm they have prayer and chorus time and sharing.
Some of the children have lost their parents to the war, others through the Tsunami. A number of children were just abandoned and are now being cared for by The Salvation Army.
