The first raptors can be seen at Alexandroupolis airport: Common Buzzards in the bushes alongside the main runway. Heading towards the Delta, the adjacent fields and hillsides can produce Hen Harrier, Black Kite and occasional Red Kite. It's also worth checking the Buzzards for Long-legged.

A female Sparrowhawk surveys the scene from dense cover. Sparrowhawk and Goshawk are regularly seen hunting in the area.

Every picture tells a story: A distant Spotted Eagle, surrounded by swan feathers from its latest successful hunting foray.

The Black Kite roost in the middle of the Delta usually holds more than fifty birds, with Red Kite also present in small numbers. The Marsh and Hen Harrier roost is even more spectacular, with more than 200 birds which float in as the darkness falls.

Moving away from the Delta, a short drive north of Alexandroupolis takes you to the scenic Avas Gorge via the less scenic landfill site (look out for "clouds" of circling gulls). This area is good for Black Kite, Black Vulture and any other of the large scavenging raptors wintering in the area.

Further north lies the Dadia Forest Reserve, with its Vulture feeding station, offering good views of the feeding flocks.
