Matt Henry

Previous Bands: Elmfield, Bollington, Marple, Pennine, Stockport Schools.

  Matt began playing the cornet at the age of 8 at Great Moor Junior school. He was a member of the Stockport School's Brass band, becoming principal cornet of the Intermediate band at the age of 10. During this time he was also Principal Cornet of the Elmfield Band, winning best soloist at the Kirby Lonsdale contest.

Matt the moved up to the Stockport School's senior band and became Principal cornet, a position he held for four years. During this time the band won numerous contests such as the Action Research youth competition and the National Youth Brass Band competition as well as appearing on Blue Peter! Also at this time Matt was repiano for the Bollington Band under the direction of Bob Wyatt and toured Holland with them at the age of 11. Matt then became Principal cornet, a position he held for two years.

At the age of 18 Matt joined championship section Marple Band on the front row and competed in all the major contests. He also completed 3 courses with the National Youth band of Great Britain reaching 3rd man! After 2 years with Marple, Matt joined Pennine Brass for a short time before going to University.

While studying at Leeds Metropolitan University he decided to have a break from banding in order to concentrate on more important things such as cheap drink, even cheaper woman and a small bit of studying!
