If there were a Carlsberg of Baritone players,
Paul would probably be the Guinness.......quite thick with a greying
head and usually very flat! Paul joined BT in 1987 as a fresh faced 16 year old Euphonium prodigy and has gradually worked his way down the Euph & bari line to his current seat on 1st Baritone. His ambition in life is to have reached 2nd Baritone before the age of 35 and judging by his recent standard of playing, this may actually aiming to high! He had an extremely successful albeit brief spell on Solo Horn in the late '90s but moved back to Baritone after being caught miming the entire performance of the test piece on stage at the Masters. It was only then the band discovered he couldn't actually play the Tenor Horn although his miming ability was and still is without doubt one of the most prodigious the brass band world has seen! Highlights of his early career at BT include the winning of the inceptive 1st section National Finals and the collecting of a Hat-Trick of paperweights from the now defunct Pilkington's contest. Later highlights include qualifying for and playing at the British Open with BT and a fine performance of transvestism at the All England Masters is fondly remembered by some of the current playing staff. Paul left BT in October 2001 for a spell at Ashton-U-Lyne band where several old BT players currently ply their trade. It wasn't the most successful period in Ashton's history, but it was certainly the most inebriated. Paul returned to his spiritual home on 1st barking iron at BT in Nov 2003 and is currently awaiting the nod for a move down to 2nd!!
