Steve Taylor (Teds)

Previous Bands:  Fodens; CWS Manchester; Wingates; Status Quo

Prior to the outbreak of war in 1939 Steve was the child prodigy Principal cornet for the fabled St Hilda’s Colliery band, winning the National Title no less than 8 times. A little known fact about Steve is that he was one of the original founding members of rock group Status Quo.
After being shot down over Dresden in 1944 he and his then co-pilot/navigator Corporal Francis Rossi both learned to play guitar whilst recuperating in an RAF hospital in Buckingham in the late 1940’s. The rest as they say is history as Status Quo was born. Steve left the Quo in 1955 citing musical differences and deciding they would never hit the big time.

It was during a fifteen year stretch at Her Majesty’s Pleasure Steve then picked up his cornet again and joined the legendary CWS Manchester band under the baton of Alex Mortimer where he had many successful years.
Steve ended up at BT purely by accident. His then wife was in Stockport Infirmary giving birth to his ninth child and with the BT bandroom located next door Steve ambled in for a listen between contractions and has never left since.

In his spare time Steve is a canny card player and has been reprimanded several times for cheating on the band coach. Indeed one year the band withdrew from the Area contest due to a major fracas on the way there which left 7 players with split lips and a further 4 with broken fingers.
