Burn Gliding Club
has built a well respected reputation in glider pilot training and
flying achievements over a number of decades. Our aim has
always been to provide flying for all,
at a reasonable cost. We have excellent, launch facilities and a
variety of both
single and two-seater club aircraft available to fly.
The club is situated
just off the A19 near Selby in East Yorkshire.
The
entrance, signposted Gliding Club, is via Park Lane in Burn
village, 1 mile south from the A63 Selby Bypass (2.5 miles
south of Selby) and 5 miles north from J34
of the M62. The club is a
staffed by qualified people who give their time on a voluntary
basis which helps us keep the club's operating costs - and therefore flying costs -
affordable.
Burn is an ex-World War II RAF Bomber Command Airfield and
retains its original layout of three runways around a centre
triangle. We offer flying training and solo launch facilities
on Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. Each day
starts at about 9 am when we unpack the hangar and prepare the
gliders. Flying usually
starts at, or before, 10am and continues up to 6 or 7pm, depending on the weather
conditions and sunset time. We also offer gift vouchers for
flights, 5 day intensive gliding training courses and
group/evening visits - see
price list for details. As well as the comprehensive club fleet of twin and single seat gliders,
we have a Pawnee tow aircraft for
aerotow launches, two Tost winches capable of launching a glider to
between 1000ft and 2000ft, a Venture motor glider, a
launch point tea bus, a spacious clubhouse with wireless
internet access and reasonably priced bar, as well as a warm
and friendly atmosphere.
If you are interested in flying from Burn, or would like a trial lesson, we have lots of
information detailing our prices, the fleet, and the club. Please use the menu to the left
