The Burn Gliding Club web site
asserts that they are 'one of the U.K.'s friendliest'. As a lapsed glider pilot, of some
30 years, I decided to find out if all of their promotional jargon was true.
After my e-mail contact a visit to the historic Burn airfield was quickly arranged. At the
hanger I met the duty pilot who in turn introduced me to three of the instructors who were
on duty that day.
Thirty years is a long time out of the cockpit but all was explained in a professional and
light hearted way by Steve Martin, one of the highly experienced and qualified
instructors. I was to fly with both Steve and Dave Peters that day and the photographs
that appear on the Burn web pages bring back a flood of very happy memories.
So was the club friendly? All I can say is come and see for yourself!
Over the next few weeks I will be writing a series of articles detailing my progress
towards what I hope will be a very memorable solo flight and the start of my flying
career.
