About BWP

Map of the area we coverBroxtowe Women's Project was set up in January 2001 to provide an information and support service for women living in the north of Broxtowe Borough and Stapleford who are experiencing or have experienced domestic violence. The Project was developed by Broxtowe Women's Issues Network (BWIN) which was a group of women and men from various agencies who had been focusing on women's issues in the Broxtowe Borough, particularly domestic violence.

The Project's objectives are to challenge domestic violence and abuse by increasing society's awareness of violent and abusive behaviour and offer support to all women experiencing domestic violence in the Broxtowe borough.  The Project has concentrated on the North of Broxtowe borough and Stapleford, where women's domestic violence services have been scarce.  The Project became a full member of Women's Aid Federation of England in 2005 and is now a women only organisation.  On February 1st 2009, the Project became a company limited by guarantee.

Aims

  • To provide support to all women experiencing/surviving domestic violence and abuse through information, leaflets and other means of contact within the Broxtowe borough.
  • To raise awareness of domestic violence and abuse and its impact on women and women and children locally and nationally through publicity, seminars, training and other types of information sessions.
  • To work in partnership with and provide information to voluntary and statutory agencies supporting or in contact with women.
  • To assist with the development of a domestic violence forum in Broxtowe.
  • To work within the general principles of Women's Aid Federation of England and to reflect the views of women survivors.

Donations and Funders

Donations

There are a number of ways you can support our work and help to make a real difference to women and children suffering from domestic violence. All donations, no matter how small, are gratefully received.

By giving us £15 you will enable us to provide a woman with 1 hour's phone support - this could be her first time of telling anyone about the domestic violence and could be the beginning of a journey where she can become free from fear.

By giving us £45 you will enable us to provide a woman with 2 hours of outreach support - meeting her in a safe and confidntal venue and working alongside her to establish her needs and options.  This may be her only opportunity to be listened to and taken seriously.

By giving us £65 you will enable us to assist a woman in crisis into refuge.  This can take several hours of liaising with various agencies and lots of support, encouragement and reassurance, especially if there are children involved. This could be a woman's next step to freedom.
