If someone told you they were experiencing domestic violence would you know what to say?

It’s not always easy to know how to respond if you are concerned that someone is experiencing domestic violence. There are lots of myths and ideas about domestic violence which stop women asking for help and which make it hard to know what to do and say.

At Broxtowe Women’s Project we believe that a sensitive and informed response can make all the difference and may even save a woman’s life. This is one reason why we work alongside NDVF to provide FREE domestic violence awareness training throughout the year.

The sessions are Modules 1-4 of Notts Domestic Violence Forum training scheme.

Modules 1 and 2 explore some of the many questions which people ask such as:

  • Why do women stay in abusive relationships?
  • Is domestic violence just physical violence?
  • How does domestic violence affect children?
  • What do I say if I think someone is being abused by their partner?
  • What help can a woman get if she is experiencing domestic violence?

Modules 3 and 4 are for people who have attended modules 1 and 2 or had some "in-house" domestic violence training.

It will cover issues such as:

  • Why men perpetrate domestic violence.
  • Men's beliefs and behaviours.
  • Recognise when domestic violence is occurring.
  • How men use children to control women.
  • Appropriate ways to respond to men who use domestic violence against women.
  • Assist participants to review their policies and practise closer inter-agency links.

If you would like to know more or book a place on one of the courses held in Broxtowe or through the county then please contact NDVF directly.

Unfortunately due to lack of funding BWP are not offering any free training sessions at this time.  However, if you would like a free short awareness raising session for your group or agency which can be tailored to your needs, then please give us a call.
