Awareness

The outreach and awareness worker can give short awareness raising sessions to any organisation that would like to find out about domestic violence and the Broxtowe Women’s Project. The sessions cover definitions of domestic violence, the myths and realities, the physical and psychological impact on women and their children, why women stay in and return to abusive relationships, sources of local and national help and information about Broxtowe Women's Project. The sessions are flexible and  interactive and include discussions on the various issues raised.

We also offer free training which is facilitated by Women’s Aid trainers. This is free to any organisation or individual in Broxtowe borough. It is a more in-depth look at domestic violence than the awareness raising sessions and this takes one full day. The training aims to raise the participants awareness of domestic violence and enable them to provide sensitive and appropriate responses to women and children who they come into contact with. We aim to enable participants to feel more confident about responding to situations involving domestic violence, to give basic information on the services which are available and to begin to look at the actions which they can take in their organisation.

We also offer free training on 'Working with Male Perpetrators', run by Notts Domestic Violence Forum for anyone who has already attended the basic 'Domestic Violence Awareness ' training. This part of the training will assist participants to gain greater understanding about why men perpetrate domestic violence by assessing the various theories for its causes.

Broxtowe Domestic Violence Network was set up to provide a focus for the various work which goes on in the different organisations across the whole of the Broxtowe Borough, as well as a place where the voices of survivors can be heard and influence decisions.

The project has leaflets outlining the service we offer and we also have A4 posters available. We also have a supply of discreet cards giving information on support services for women in the Broxtowe area. These information cards have proved very successful. To order any of our publicity please download our order form here.  For a sample or supply of any of our publicity please contact us on 01773 718555.
