English

The English Schools once again
provided a truly inspirational weekend of Athletics with the Chelmsford Athletes
taking pride of place by bringing home 8 gold medals and a Championship best
performance to cap the day by Ellie Besford who pole vaulted 3.81 to take the
senior girls title and CBP.
I
don't think any club has ever had so many athletes represent their County at
English schools and the medal haul must beat everyone else hands down.

The

at Braintree. On a hot day and with a team reduced slightly with many
athletes from the English Schools resting, we achieved a sound 2nd position
placing. Currently, we are in 2nd place in the overall league standing
with 2 matches remaining.
Super
8 Glasgow & weekend update
Louise Wood has been invited to
compete in Glasgow tonight (Wednesday) in the Super 8 champs. Louise has
some excellent competition as Lolo Jones is one of her fellow competitors!! http://www.uka.org.uk/competitions/super-8/.
A 2nd place finish at Guildford
positions the Southern Women's in the top half of the premier table. Also, on
Saturday the men were also in action and again doing very well, by winning their
match and sitting in a strong promotion position.
On Sunday the club was away again at Woodford Green where the U20's had a tough
day against the best in the premier league. The girls finished in overall
4th, but the lads ended up in 8th, largely due to a very small squad of lads
competing. This was not surprise as we also had a Eastern Young comp match
to support at Thurrock. Good news in that we won that match and currently
top the league!
World

Bedford AC. Chelmsford is going from strength to strength in this age group
as they are already Essex champions and three of the girls will still be in
this age group next year.
Jessica
Judd was the clear winner of the Under 15 Girls race. The English Schools
champion took up the lead at the top of the first hill and made light work
of the muddy conditions to secure

Chelmsford
10k Road Race - 22/11/09
On
Sunday
Chelmsford
hosted their annual 10k race from
Melbourne
Park
. In blustery conditions the race was won by Springfield's Paul Molyneux in 31
mins 19 secs.
Springfield
also narrowly won the team race in a close battle with the host club and it
was pleasing to see these two
Chelmsford
based running clubs dominating the race. Performance of the day was Harriet
Scotts win in the Women's event. Harriet finished in 13th place overall out of
over 300 competitors who braved the weather. Her time was 34 mins 53 seconds
to put her almost 2 mins clear of the next female competitor. Harriet who
trains at
Chelmsford
said "I found the race tough today. When I got to the course it was like
a storm but my coach said not to think about that and just get on with the
race. Once we started the wind seemed to be constantly against us but I was
able to work through the race with a group of men and I am really pleased to
have run a personal best." Chelmsford
Ladies Hayley Pegg, Wendy king and Katie Tuttlebury won the team event.
South
of England Cross Country Championships - 21/11/09
Chelmsford
athletic clubs Jessica Judd won the U15 Girls south of England Inter Counties
cross country championships on Saturday at Parliament Hill on Hampstead Heath.
Jessica, the U15 British record holder over 1500metres was representing
Essex
and led from the start of the race. She never looked in any danger
of being caught over the 4km hilly course. She crossed the line with a huge
grin across her face, relieved that she has now completely overcome her
illness of recent weeks. In second place was Sophie Riches, also of Chelmsford
AC, a year younger than Jessica, Sophie is following closely in the footsteps
of her teammate and is herself the second fastest U15 in Britain over
1500metres and 3km. Sophie trailed Bedford's Rebecca Murray for most of the
race but caught and pulled away from the Bedford girl in the last 200metres to
the delight of the Essex supporters.
Earlier
Millie Smith from Chelmsford AC had finished a fine 10th in the U13 race and
helped
Essex
to team victory. Katie Sollis, Maddy Gough and Rosa Prideaux were also all in
the top 25 showing the strength of Chelmsford Athletic Club in this age group.
Other
Chelmsford
athletes competing were Callum Charleston who finished 31st in his Essex
debut in the U13 Boys race, Stephen Woodford was a very pleasing 12th in
the U15 Boys and Katie Tuttlebury helped
Essex
to team victory in the U20 age group.

Essex
Cross Country League - 14/11/09
The
second round of the Essex League took place at a wet and windy Hylands Park on
Saturday 14th November.
The
organisers had set up the course on Friday only to find much of it blown away
by the strong winds that arrived Friday evening and Saturday morning.
Athletes
from Chelmsford Athletic club provided four individual winners as well as
three team victories to show that the club is one of the strongest in
Essex
across all age groups.
The
U13 Girls got proceedings off to a fine start by comfortably winning the team
race with Katie Solis 2nd, Rosa Prideaux 3rd, Jodie Judd 4th and Natasha Fisher
7th. Chris Waltham won the U13 Boys individual race. Jessica Judd easily won the
U15 Girls event and led
Chelmsford
to team victory. An England International, Jessica had been suffering from a
virus for the two weeks preceding this race. "I wanted a confidence booster
before the South of England Inter Counties cross country next weekend, I am
happy with my performance and should get back to full strength over the
next few days."
Stephen
Woodford and Sam Robinson were a fine 2nd and 3rd in the U15 Boys event and led
their team mates to another win. Alex Short ran one of the best races of the day
to win the U17 Boys race; he was always in the leading group and made his move
into the wind on the second lap to pull strongly away for a fine
victory. Katie Tuttlebury was 3rd in the U20 women’s race while Havering AC's
Harriet Scott made light work of the strong wind and heavy rain to easily win
the Senior Women’s race. Harriet commented "It was so windy out there at
times it was difficult not to end up being blown backwards. I wanted to race
here as
Hylands
Park
is like a home course for me and I enjoy racing here." The
final race of the day saw a terrific tussle with two
Chelmsford
athletes featuring prominently in the lead group of four until the final
stages. Lee Pickering had been at or near the front on the first lap although
towards the end only Ed Messer and Ryan Prout were still in contact with the
leaders. Messer made a strong effort with 400metres to go and no one was able to
go with him, Prout was 4th and with Messer only 2nd claim for Chelmsford these
days the team was 3rd, hopefully with some athletes to come back from illness
and injury and others hoping to progress into good form, the Chelmsford men can
go on to do very well this winter.
This
weekend several
Chelmsford
athletes are representing Essex in the South of
England
Inter Counties cross country at Hampstead Heath (21st November).
Essex
is a strong county at cross country running and hopefully will have
considerable success. Some
Chelmsford
athletes will be in the hunt for individual honours whilst for others it will
be a great learning experience.
Indoor
& Winter Fixture Lists Updated - 13/11/09
The
latest dates for indoor competitions have been added. Note that you will
need to access the links and enter yourself independently.
National
Road Relays
Sutton
Park
near
Birmingham
was the venue for the annual National Road Relays.
Chelmsford
had an U13 Girls and U15 Girls team running, unfortunately there were no other
age groups entered this year.
The
teams will gain great experience from running this tough and high standard
event.
In
the Under 13 Girls race on Sunday Millie Smith produced a strong
performance on first leg finishing in 11th position. She was the fastest of
the team although Christy Dailly moved them up to 8th which was held by Rosa
Prideaux on the final leg. Both Millie and Rosa have another year in this age
group.
The
Under 15 Girls race was always going to be quite a close race. Chelmsford were
up against 40 teams including the reigning champions Aldershot AC, also Bedford
AC coached by Alex Stanton who guided Paula Radcliff to the top, and Bracknell
AC, another strong club. Sophie Riches went on first leg for
Chelmsford
and continuing her current top form she came in 10 seconds clear in what was to
be the 2nd fastest run of the race. Sophie Croft took over on the second leg.
Her year has been interrupted by problems but she is returning to full fitness,
despite running strongly for the first 2k of the 3.8k race Sophie found the
hills towards the end quite tough and came in 9th. Jessica Judd attacked the
last leg in her usual dominant way and passed every team apart from
Aldershot
who were still 27 seconds clear at the end. Jessica ran the fastest time of the
race. To put into perspective this
achievement, Aldershot AC won every female race from U13 to Senior Women.
The
y have performed at this level for nearly 10 years, so the
Chelmsford
girls can be extremely pleased with their debuts in this event.
