At the recent meeting of the Ramsbottom Horticultural Society, long-time member, Mr Tony Bracegirdle, played his newly released DVD “The Guide to Showing Roses”.

Tony has had an interest in roses for many years, and from his allotment has grown several different types of rose that he has exhibited in shows all around the country.  He has now been the Royal National Rose Society Amateur National Champion for nine consecutive years, the longest term that any one person has held the title.

He has perfected his methods of exhibiting roses to the very highest standards and has now successfully completed his first DVD & Video of his methods, illustrating the care and attention to detail which bring him a consistent stream of awards and accolades.  Indeed he even won a class at Holker Hall with a bowl of Red Devils: coincidently the Red Devil sky diving team were there giving a display; the award was their baton which was presented to Tony.

There is also a section within the presentation by Dr Tommy Cairns, President of the American Rose Society, who explains his methods of showing miniature roses.  

In this instructive Guide Tony shares his secrets of success with you and hopes you have as much pleasure from your roses as he has over the last forty years.  He is also planning the next Guide which will be aimed at the more general gardener and concentrate on how to grow and cultivate your own perfect bloom. 

The Guide to Showing Roses was well received by members, and after discussion and questions Tony was thanked for his presentation by The Chairman, Mr Ray Chadwick who thought it was also helpful to other members as many of the instructions could be applied to other varieties of flower display.

The Guide is available as a DVD or Video Tape and is just £15.  The Guide would make an ideal gift for any rose grower at any time of the year.
