The Law Centre provides free legal advice for Camden residents on immigration law.

Drop in advice
We are open to callers without appointment for legal advice on immigration matters on Mondays from 10am to 1pm. Advice is given on a first come first served basis, and we see a limited number of people. We also have drop in advice sessions in the afternoons on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with different specialist advisers on each time, including immigration. Evening advice sessions
These are held on Monday evenings, by appointment only, run by Immigration unit workers and volunteers barristers.

Telephone advice
We offer telephone advice for urgent matters, initial advice or quick queries, and for those who would have difficulty getting to the Law Centre, from Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm, except Tuesdays when lines open from 2pm to 6pm.

Outreach service
The Immigration unit holds an advice session at Kilburn Citizens Advice Bureau for those who live in the Kilburn area and would have difficulty getting to the Law Centre

Kilburn CAB immigration advice sessions are held once a month at 200 Kilburn High Road, NW6. To book an appointment tel: 0845 120 2965 or drop in Monday-Friday 10am-12pm except Wednesday (closed)

Home visits:
We provide home visits for housebound clients who cannot visit the Law Centre.

What we advise on:

  • Immigration and nationality law
  • Asylum and refugees
  • Family reunion
  • Applications for entry clearance and settlement
  • Entry clearance for family members coming to the UK for settlement, visits or studies
  • Extending permission to remain in the UK
  • Deportation and illegal entry
  • Eligibility for services where immigration status is an issue
  • Freedom of movement of EEA and associated nationals
  • Resident permits/documents for EEA nationals and their family members
  • Naturalisation/registration as British citizens
  • Passports and travel documents

    Casework:
    We take on cases in all immigration matters(subject to capacity) except:

  • Persons of independent means
  • Work related immigration cases under the points based scheme

    Our involvement spans from taking initial instructions, submitting applications and doing follow-up work, to making further representation at appeals when necessary.

    How we work
    We are a free service. Where you are eligible for assistance under the Community Legal Service we will help you complete the necessary forms. We cannot take on every case. If we cannot take on your case, we will do our best to refer you to an appropriate alternative. If we take your case on we will be acting on your behalf, with your instructions, in the same way as private solicitors. Our work is governed by Law Society rules.

    Confidentiality
    NO information is disclosed to anyone, nor any steps taken, without your permission.

    Language
    Law Centre staff speak a number of languages. We can normally arrange for an interpreter or signer where necessary (this requires notice).
