Date: Wednesday 2nd August 2006.
Players from every section of the club along with their families and friends enjoyed an evening of presentations and season round ups. Guests of honour included FA representative Thura Win, General Secretary of the South West Combination League Eddie Spraggett, FAW Trust Women and Girls Development Officer Deb Wise, from Cardiff County Council Rob Franklin and the Dragon Sports Scheme Officer Yvonne Hughes, as well as the Under 19’s and Women’s International Team Manager Andy Beattie who presented all the international players with their caps.
The Under 13’s A team received their league runners up trophy from South Wales Girls League Chairman Rob Lewis. As did the Under 15’s team who collected the Championship trophy and medals for winning their league. Andy Beattie was a busy man as he presented 5 Under 17’s players with their international caps, and he chuckled as the overhead PowerPoint frame highlighted a formation of what might have been, as 12 players were capped through out the season at under 19’s level. 5 players received their caps at full senior level for playing in the women’s world cup qualifying games.
Individual awards for Most Improved Players and Player of the Year were presented to every section, as well as a new award to each junior section of a ‘junior dragon award’ presented for recognition of dedication, commitment and endeavour to the sport. A very special award was made by Welsh International players Charlotte Miller, Sian Cheedy, Gwennan Harries and Jessica Fishlock when they made their own gesture to the Player of the Year from each of the junior section of presenting each youngster with one of their own international shirts, this unique and thoughtful gesture was acclaimed by everyone in the room.
The evenings presentations was rounded off with Jessica Fishlock winning the Presidents Cup for “Players Player of the Year” and the screen showing a film of Jess’s recent sponsored parachute jump as she walked up to collect her award. The club has received several congratulatory letters from guests of the evening with Yvonne Hughes the Dragon Sport coordinator writing “It was, without doubt, one of the best presentation evenings I have attended, focussing not only on the senior team but also those young players of the future. What wonderful ambassadors for the sport your players are, and this was confirmed to me when your senior internationals presented their Welsh shirts to their nominated young players”.
