2006/07 fixtures announced.

Date: Saturday 29th July 2006.

The fixtures for the 2006/07 season have been announced by the Football Association.

Cardiff City Ladies will begin their first season at the pinnacle of women’s football in England and Wales, with a daunting away trip to Doncaster Rovers Belles on Sunday 20th August.

City then host Blackburn Rovers the following Sunday at Cardiff Athletics Stadium, Leckwith.

The only meeting, in recent times, between Cardiff and Doncaster came in the Premier League Cup second round in October 2004, when the South Yorkshire outfit ran out 5-1 winners.

Cardiff have never met Blackburn Rovers, however this first clash should be an interesting occasion with both teams playing their first season in the Women;s Premier League and sharing a similar recent history.

Blackburn were champions of the National League Northern Division last season and before that they were champions of the Northern Combination with a 100% win record in 2003/04. Uncannily, Cardiff records is identical. They were crowned champions of the National League Southern Division in 2005/06 and also won the South West Combination league in 2003/04 season, also with a 100% record.

Club Secretary, Karen Jones, said “Our aims will be to consolidate first and foremost but we are really excited about the season and aim to learn as we go through the season, as it’s the first time we have been at this level, but we have strengthened our squad are quietly confident that we can stay there.”

Cardiff have recently signed Arsenal and under 19's goalkeeper Lauren Wells, striker Ruth Waghorn from Langford and two former Watford players Dana Hinton and Miranda Hall, along with Welsh Under 19's midfield player Amie Lea from Swansea City.

Coach Michele Adams said "I am pleased that we have been able to attract such a high caliber of players, this will give us more strength in depth for our league games".

Meanwhile, Cardiff City Ladies Reserves begin the season by hosting Crystal Palace on Sunday 20th August before traveling to Watford the following week.

The Reserves had mixed fortunes against the Eagles, with both sides losing their home fixtures!

Cardiff City's opening fixtures are subject to change following the announcement of the Welsh Squad to compete in the FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying rounds scheduled for the 20th August, versus Israel and against Estonia on the 26th August.
