Classic Service Rifle Challenge
for WW1&2 service rifles ‘as issued’
 (iron sights, slings to be fitted to the butt and top sling swivel)

 

Course of Fire

 

Match 1 – Slowfire,  Prone Unsupported

2 sighters + 10 rounds in 5 minutes
 
Tin Hat (Sand and Sky) target rings score 5,4,3,2 and hits score 1

The sighters will be individually marked and the values signalled. The competitor will then have 5 minutes maximum in which to fire 10 scoring shots, which will be marked and scored only at the end of the sequence.

Competitors may use a sling for support.

Match 2 – Rapidfire,  Prone Supported

10 rounds in 1 minute
 
Tin Hat (Sand and Sky) target rings score 5,4,3,2 and hits score 1

No sighters. Starting position is empty rifle on the ground with competitor standing behind it holding 10 rounds in clips or magazine. On the signal, the competitor adopts the prone supported position, loads and engages the target with 10 rounds.

Competitors may use a sling, sand bag, flat-topped rest or similar for the forend, but no bipods or rear rests allowed.

Match 3 – Snaps,  Prone

10 exposures of 5 seconds
 
Fig12 (Fig11 head & shoulders) target, 6” central band scores 5 and hits score 2

No sighters. Starting position is prone on aim with 5 rounds loaded and 5 rounds in a separate clip or magazine. The target will make 5 exposures of 5 sec. face / 5 sec. away, then a 20 second away for the compulsory reload, followed by a further 5 exposures of 5 sec. face / 5 sec. away.
One shot only to be fired at each exposure.

Competitors may use a sling for support.

Match 4 – Slowfire,  Kneeling and Sitting

10 rounds in 2 minutes
 
Tin Hat (Sand and Sky) target rings score 5,4,3,2 and hits score 1

No sighters. Starting position is standing holding their empty rifle with butt on the ground, with 2 clips or magazines of 5 rounds ready.  On the signal the competitor will assume the kneeling position, THEN load and fire 5 rounds; with empty rifle move to the sitting position, THEN load and fire a further 5 rounds.

THE RIFLE MUST BE POINTING WITHIN 20 mils (1 deg.) OF THE AIMING MARK BEFORE CLOSING THE BOLT ON A LIVE ROUND

Instructions for Butt Markers

 

Match 1 – Slowfire,  Prone Unsupported

2 sighters + 10 rounds in 5 minutes
 
Tin Hat (Sand and Sky) target

·         target rings score 5,4,3,2 and hits anywhere else on the target score 1

·         Request the competitor’s name by radio and record it on the next score sheet

·         For each of two sighters insert marker and display, then lower target and patch out

·         On the radio command from R/O, raise the target for 5 minutes, then lower

·         Record scores for 10 shots, insert markers in all shot holes, display for a minute, lower and patch out

 

Match 2 – Rapidfire,  Prone Supported

10 rounds in 1 minute
 
Tin Hat (Sand and Sky) target

·         target rings score 5,4,3,2 and hits anywhere else on the target score 1

·         Request the competitor’s name by radio and record it on the next score sheet

·         On the radio command from R/O, raise the target for 60 seconds, then lower

·         Record scores for 10 shots, insert markers in all shot holes, display for a minute, lower and patch out

 

Match 3 – Snaps,  Prone

10 exposures of 5 seconds

·         6” wide central vertical band scores 5 and hits anywhere else on the target score 2

·         Request the competitor’s name by radio and record it on the next score sheet

·         Raise the target edge-on. On the radio command from R/O, make 5 exposures of face 5 sec + edge 5 sec, holding the last edge for 20 seconds, then a further 5 exposures, then lower

·         Record scores for 10 shots, insert markers in all shot holes, display for a minute, lower and patch out

 

Match 4 – Slowfire,  Kneeling and Sitting

10 rounds in 2 minutes

·         target rings score 5,4,3,2 and hits anywhere else on the target score 1

·         Request the competitor’s name by radio and record it on the next score sheet

·         On the radio command from R/O, raise the target for 120 seconds, then lower

·        Record scores for 10 shots, insert markers in all shot holes, display for a minute, lower and patch out
