Phoenix ‘A’ course of fire
for Smallbore and Centrefire Gallery Rifles
40 shots – HPS 200
· ‘LOAD’ at every stage means the competitor will close the rifle’s action, let the hammer down and apply the safety before loading up to 10 rounds into the magazine, but NOT make ready. Rifles without a manual safety are not eligible to enter this competition. If your rifle is not capable of loading 10 rounds, additional rounds may only be loaded after the ‘Make Ready’ signal.
· ‘READY’ position is with the rifle butt in your shoulder and muzzle at 45° pointing down range.
· ‘TRAIL’ position is with rifle held in weak hand parallel with the ground and pointing down range.
· ‘MAKE READY’ means safety catch off and operate the action to load a round into the chamber.
· At no time may you move forward with a round in the chamber
· There will be no allowance for malfunctions.
· Targets will be 2 adjacent DP1 for centrefire or 2 half-sized DP1 for smallbore.
Targets will edge for 10 secs and make 2 exposures of 10 secs with 10 secs away.
Load and adopt the Ready position.
On the command ‘Watch out Watch out’ and targets edge, the competitor will adopt the kneeling position and make ready. When the targets face, engage target 1 with 5 shots, engage the safety catch before moving, adopt a sitting position, disengage the safety catch, and when the targets face again engage target 2 with 5 shots.
The targets will edge for 5 secs, then make 5 exposures of 3 secs with an away time of 7 secs.
Load and adopt the Ready position.
On the command ‘Watch out Watch out’ and targets edge, the competitor will make ready. Each time the targets face, fire 2 shots only at the left-hand target and return to the Ready position.
Targets will edge for 5 secs, face for 10 secs, then make 4 exposures of 3 secs with 7 secs away.
Load and adopt the Trail position.
On the command ‘Watch out Watch out’ and targets edge, the competitor will move forward to the 15m line, make ready and fire one shot on each target - at each further exposure fire one shot on each target.
Targets will edge for 5 secs, face for 10 secs, then make 2 exposures of 5 secs with 7 secs away.
Load and adopt the Trail position.
On the command ‘Watch out Watch out’ and targets edge, the competitor will move forward to the 10m line, make ready and open fire - at each further exposure any number of shots may be fired but only the worst 5 shots will be counted on each target.
