1971 Morris Minor LCV GPO Telephone Engineering Van
Yes I know it's the wrong colour but I like it and someone at BT went to a lot of trouble retro fitting it with all the correct parts for the earlier version!
I bought this van partly by accident
at the BT auction in 2003, I put my bidding card down at £450 but the
auctioneer wrote it down to me at £500. I didn't even know I'd won it till
someone started a conversation later in the evening about what colour it should
be and congratulated me on getting it for a bargain price!
Apart from curing the fluid leak, getting it running again and checking it over in depth, not a lot has happened to it. The floor pan needs replacing as the drivers seat is dragging on the floor and both door bottoms need welding. A new exhaust and bushes underneath are the only work as the chassis is nice and solid (looking!), we'll see when the cab and body come off in the summer.
As it isn't an original green one, but will be repainted green, I thought I might as well change out the engine so I can use it to tow a diving boat around. Max speed of 40 MPH without a load means I'll have to leave a day before the rest of the club to get anywhere. A 2.0 Montego turbo diesel or Ford 2.8 Sierra and its 4x4 running gear may well find it's way in to it. A power winch and some substantial underbody anti corrosion protection is also on the cards. The racking in the back is just right for air tanks and other diving equipment so it will get regular use and have some purpose too, not just being driven to shows in the summer.
