CHAPTER provides a service for people with mental health problems, most of long duration and considerable severity. It assists in the maintenance and support of people who, because of their mental illness, need help in regaining confidence and accessing training and employment. It has long been accepted that moving back into the main stream through education and/or employment is one of the key factors helping people to remain in the community.
Set up in 1991 as the result of an initiative led by mental health workers and users, it is now a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. From a very small beginning CHAPTER has developed both in the scope of it's work and the number of users/clients (now in excess of 200). Initial funding came from Cheshire CC Social Services and is continuing today.
CHAPTER is staffed by a hard-working group of 11 people who bring a range of skills but share a commitment to working with people who are mentally ill.
CHAPTER's various projects include a gardening scheme, a youth employment project, a "moving on" project and the funders presently include Cheshire West and Chester Social Services, Western Cheshire Primary Care Trust, Henry Smith Charity, Lloyds TSB Foundation, and BBC Children in Need.
Our Mission is to to provide high quality, innovative, community based services related to employment for people in the Chester and Ellesmere Port areas who have experienced mental health problems. |
