  Wood 'n' Gardens Launch Event
On 11th January 2011 Wood ‘n’ Gardens held a celebration event to launch the project as a user-led initiative. The event was attended by Staff, services users and volunteers, with a special visit from John Church, Chairman of NHS Western Cheshire. The service users of the project had the opportunity to highlight their achievements and chat to John Church about the benefits of the project to them.

John Church had made a donation from the Chairman’s funds to the project to purchase some vital equipment that will enable the project to produce high quality items for resale which will assist in the sustainability of the project. John Church commented that he felt it was a very worthwhile project and he had enjoyed the opportunity to meet the service users and listen to their aspirations, whilst seeing first hand how the money had been used.

John Church was presented with some wooden objects made by the service users on the new equipment.

Wood ‘n’ Gardens had more good news that day when a letter arrived to tell us that we had been successful in another funding bid. The Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales will provide funding to cover staff salary (part-time basis) for two years and on-cost for the first year. This excellent news means that the project can now start to build on what has already been achieved, and now looks to be really taking off and heading towards self sufficiency.

After the celebrations at Wood ‘n’ Gardens, John Church went on to visit the site of CHAPTER’s newest Polytunnel where he was able to see how things are taking shape. Another contribution from the Chairman’s fund has enabled new covering to be purchased for the Polytunnel and staging to be erected inside. These will double CHAPTER’s growing potential and opportunities for service users who are interested in gardening.
