Friends of Christchurch

Setting it up

Since 2005 we have been setting up a support network called “The Friends of Christ Church” which is open to ex- members, relatives and friends of members and anyone who might be interested in supporting the work here from a distance.

When the spiritual tide starts to turn in our nation, it will do so in inner city areas like Peckham, because they are full of people who are poor, weak and on the margins of society. This is because “God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise: God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.” (1 Cor 1:27).

Moreover the cities are strategically important. Tim Keller, pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York once said, “When the cities are pagan but the countryside is Christian, the culture will become pagan, but when the cities are Christian and the countryside is pagan the culture will become Christian.” We will not win our nation for Christ, until we win places like Peckham for Christ.

Christ Church is now better placed than ever to take the opportunity that we believe God is giving us. We enjoy a wonderful freedom to try new things, to take risks and embark on adventures of faith. This is because God has been amazingly kind to us in bringing spiritual life and raising our faith in ways that we would not have believed possible even two or three years ago.

The congregation is also now much more representative of north Peckham than we were five years ago and we are becoming increasingly involved in the local community. However this has brought a big challenge. As we have become an increasingly local church, with an increase in the work and opportunities, so our resources, especially financial, have shrunk.

Becoming a friend

A vital role

Becoming a “Friend of Christ Church”, will give you the opportunity to play a vital role in this strategic inner city work without actually having to move to Peckham. This can happen in a number of ways: · Prayer – our major need · Financial support, either with one off gifts to support specific projects we may tell you about from time to time, or a regular gift to help our cash flow. · Expertise/time, maintaining the building, helping with holiday clubs, auditing accounts etc.
