What's been happening...

Here is the latest news from Christ Church Peckham. Last term we had our church weekend away with Dave and Rachel Larlee. It was such a significant time for the church. Dave and Rachel led some talks on faith, looking at Abraham and Hannah and there was plenty of time to respond to God in the sessions. Dave is someone with a significant prophetic gift and he had verses and words of encouragement for so many people in the church. Also Helens parents, John and Audrey, made themselves available throughout the weekend to pray for people. There were some great testimonies from our children and young people; each had met with God over the weekend.

As a church we are looking to initiate a new project called, House of Bethany. This involves seeking to buy a house locally for Steph Cox, our children and families worker, so she can develop her ministry among women. We are looking for a house with a garden, in our parish, with 3 or 4 bedrooms. House prices under this criteria range from 300,000 - 700,000. Stephs ownership of part of the property would reduce the capital needed by the church.

We had a good time over Easter, visiting people on the local estates, taking opportunities to pray with them and share the good news of Easter. The more we go visiting, the more we have opportunities to revisit people and see how they are getting on over time. Last month we had a baptism service, where four members of the church were baptised: Christy and Rory, Hugh and Helens oldest two, and two people who had finished the Spiritual Detox course Daniela and Christine. It was a real celebration, and it was very moving hearing peoples testimonies.

This term, we are going out every Tuesday, to stand on one of our estates and offer to pray for healing for people. One week we were able to pray for ten different people, including three teenagers who come to the Venue one guy had his knee healed when we prayed and another had an infected cut in his finger and the pain went away when we prayed. A man whose mother who was ill was amazed when we were able to pray very specifically into his situation.

Our annual Church mission week will be taking place between Monday 23rd and Saturday 29th June 2008.

During the week we will have two activities. One group will run "Healing on the Streets". We will have a stand on the Friary Estate and offer prayer for healing or any other needs that they have. The other group will visit the estates around the church to hand out publicity about the mission week, get to know local residents and take opportunities to pray and share the gospel.

Then on the Saturday we are running a family fun day on Leyton Square, between 4.30pm and 8pm. We will put on a BBQ, go-karts, music, games and a bouncy castle. There will also be a short gospel talk and prayer ministry will be available. We expect to cater for 250 people.
