Walking:

Cloud House is perfectly situated for walkers of the Staffordshire Way and the Gritstone trail.

Gritstone Trail
We are situated a mere 400 meters from the Gritstone trail, and neatly split the walk into 2 parts. From Lyme Hall to Bosley Cloud (16 miles) and then from Bosley Cloud to Mow Cop (6 miles)

The Staffordshire Way starts at Mow Cop Castle and runs for 92 miles to Kinver Edge. We are right underneath Bosley Cloud about 5 miles from the start at Mow Cop. The perfect place to stay if you want a easy first day, or have a late start after travelling.

For the more sedate walker, there are lots of more gentle walks in and around Bosley Cloud. One of our favourite, and flattest, is along the Macclesfield Canal which you can join in less than 10 minutes, at a sedate stroll, from our doorstep

Being on the western edge of the Peak District National Park there are hundreds of walks. Click here for a great list to start you off

Climbing:

Bosley Cloud is a good spot for people looking to climb low E grade routes and enjoy some awesome bouldering, especially with the surrounding views on a warm summer evening. Bosley Cloud offers no less than 55 routes.

If that is not enough we are only 8 miles from Staffordshires finest Crag, the Roaches.

Cycling:

There are hundreds of cycling routes right on our doorstep. Way too many to detail here. Here is the Cheshire County Councils information on cycle ways in and around Congleton

We are close to the Cheshire Cycleway, a 176mile/282km journey through some fine scenery. We are on the eastern most part of the route. Find more on the Cheshire Cycle way

Places to visit:

We are on the western edge of the Peak District national park which offers a vast amount of things to do. See http://www.peakdistrict.org/

For the shopper in you, there are the nearby Market towns of Buxton, Congleton, Leek and Macclesfield. All have great markets. Leek is becoming famous for its wonderful selection of antique shops.

The Jodrell Bank Observatory is only 8 or 9 miles away and offers a great afternoon out. More info here

Little Moreton House is a jewel in the National Trusts crown.

It is Cheshire's most iconic black-and-white house and one of the most famous timber framed buildings in England. This is Tudor skill and craftsmanship at its finest. More info here

Biddulph Grange Gardens. A rare and exciting survival of a high Victorian garden

  • Tunnels and pathways lead the visitor on a miniature tour of the world
  • Rare and exotic planting and architecture: from an Egyptian court, to elegant Italian terraces
  • Unique Chinese garden, including a temple, enclosed within its own Great Wall of China
  • Victorian eccentricities: an upside-down tree and strange stone sculpture
