CLUB INFORMATION
Welcome to the Club for Acts
and Actors. This Website has been produced to introduce you to the various services and
facilities that the CAA has to offer.
A BRIEF HISTORY
The Concert Artistes'
Association, (CAA) was founded in 1897, with the aim of representing the interests of and
providing assistance to members of the concert and cabaret profession. The name was
changed in the 1980s to the "Club for Acts and Actors", thus expanding the scope
of the membership to cover the changing face of entertainment and encompass the whole
theatrical profession.
The
Club is run by Artistes and Actors for Artistes and Actors.
It is not a high-powered commercial venture.
THE CLUB
The Club's premises in
Bedford Street comprise the Jester Bar, the Green Room, the Concert
Hall, Cloakrooms, Artistes' changing rooms and the administrative
Office. The Club is open from Monday to Friday inclusive, but closed
on Saturdays and Sundays except for special or private functions.
The Secretary's office is open from 9-30 a.m. to 5-00 p.m.
Members must sign the book on arrival, and sign in any guests at the
same time to comply with the law.
The Jester Bar
Members and their
guests are welcome to use the bar.
The Bar is open from 12-30 to 3-00 p.m. and from 5-00 to 11-30 p.m.
Snacks and light meals are available in the Jester Bar every
lunchtime.

The Green Room
The Green Room where members may relax, watch television, study scripts or meet with other members
or guests. It is open throughout the day, from 10-00 a.m. to 11-30 p.m.The Concert Hall
The Hall is used by the CAA for
it's own social events. On Monday evenings meals are served from 5-00 until 7-00 p.m.
(last orders 6-30), followed by a concert at 8-00 p.m. Refreshments may be available at other times by
arrangement with the Chef. The Hall may also be hired by members as
a rehearsal room, for meetings or classes etc. at a reasonable hourly fee. Non members may
also hire the Hall, at a slightly higher rate. The Secretary can provide full details
together with the current hire charges. Dimensions of the Concert Hall - 46 feet by 18 feet (14 metres by 5.5 metres).

Social Activities
Members of the committee are
responsible for organising various social events at the CAA throughout the year. Every
week there is a Monday Concert commencing at 8-00 p.m., unless otherwise advertised, and
occasional themed dinner dances.
Services Offered To Members
Newsletters
Three newsletters a year are sent
to all members, providing general information, news of forthcoming events and news of
other members.

Membership Book
The Membership Book contains the
names, addresses, telephone numbers and professional categories of all members and is
updated every two years. It is available from the office at a nominal price. Amendments
are issued regularly with the newsletters.
HONORARY CONSULTANTS
The Association has a list of
Honorary Medical Consultants whose services are available to Members. You can see from the
Membership Book, or by asking the Secretary, the list of Consultants available. Their
services are not free, but their fees are much more reasonable than you will find normally
in private medicine. To make an appointment speak to the Secretary who will make the
arrangements and advise you of the cost.
Legal advice is also available from the Association's appointed Solicitors. |

HOW CAN YOU JOIN?
Any professional member of the theatrical
profession, who wishes to join the CAA, should be proposed and seconded by two
existing fully paid up members of the Association. Application Forms can be obtained from
the Secretary. A subscription is paid annually.
Prospective members will be asked to perform at a Monday Night Concert to introduce
themselves to the Committee and fellow members.SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
There are concerts held every Monday night
to introduce new members and for existing members to try out new material.
Themed supper nights, with entertainment are organised regularly throughout the year.
The Association's Annual Ball is held in the Spring of each year in a West End Hotel, with
good food, and cabaret.
NON
PERFORMING MEMBERS
We do have the facility to invite Social
Members, who are not members of the theatrical profession. Persons who have a real
interest in the theatre, or who are relatives or friends of professional members.
The numbers are limited.
These members have full use of the Club facilities and are entitled to bring friends to
any of the social functions.
This subscription is reduced if the Social Member is the spouse of a performing member.
BENEFITS OF
MEMBERSHIP
There is a large concert
hall/rehearsal room, the Green Room and the Jester Bar.
The rehearsal room (concert hall) can be booked by members at special reduced rates
through the day, between the hours of 10-00 a.m. and 6-00 p.m. Current rates are either
£6.00 per hour plus VAT for under 10 people, or £8.00 per hour plus VAT for 10 or more
people. After 6-00 p.m., members and non-members pay £12.00 per hour plus VAT to hire the
hall. The Club is only open weekdays except by special arrangement which should be made
through the office.SOCIAL
We have a great social
diary with dinners and organised events. The highlight of the year is the Annual Ball in
February/March. The Club is a good place to meet and make friends and also provides
opportunities to make useful contacts, to promote yourself and your act. Members can have
details of all the month's concerts and events sent to them on payment of a small charge
to cover postage.
One-hour concerts are held every Monday with 3 or 4 members entertaining their fellow
members.
The Bar is open every weekday lunchtime
from 12-30 until 3-00 p.m. and food is available from our Chefs in the kitchen between
12-30 and 2-30 p.m.
The Bar is open again evenings from 5-00 p.m. until 11-30 p.m., last orders 11-15 p.m.
Evening meals are available on Monday before the concert from 5-00 p.m. until
7-00 p.m (last orders 6-30).
Members may bring guests to the Club but
this is limited to no more than 2 on a Monday evening - the main Club night. At other
times, members may bring in more guests but should phone the office first to check that
they will not be inconveniencing other members by making the Bar overcrowded.
The Association's Members List book,
(currently priced at £3.00) is available to members including useful contacts. There is
also a book about the first hundred years of the CAA called "But - what do you do in
the Winter" written by Past President, Larry Parker and edited by Douglas Muir. This
is priced £8.00 or £9.50 if you wish to have it sent. Also available for sale are Club
ties priced £6.00 each, Pierrot brooches priced £4.00 each, silver and red car badges
priced £5.00 each (very limited supply)
A key fob to let yourself into the club
(Free of charge) must be obtained from the office. All members must
have a key fob.
