



Traditional talking therapies seldom address the impact of trauma on the body. Recent research suggests the body remembers and keeps the score of the trauma. With lecture and demonstration this training day will enable participants to consider how to blend their current practice with neurobiology and sensorimotor techniques.
Norma Howes is a Social worker, Psychologist and Sensorimotor Psychotherapist. Norma is involved in training multi-agency staff on all aspects of childhood trauma and abuse. She has a private practice working with adults and children who have experienced severe childhood trauma. Norma was also a member of a Child Trauma Team for 12 years, assessing working therapeutically with children who experienced severe trauma.

The day will explore patterns of attachment and internal working models, looking at affect regulation and safe havens. Using whole group input alongside small group discussion and exploration in pairs, the day aims to help counsellors to use attachment theory in the counselling room working with clients.
Jean Knights is a counsellor and psychotherapist with 27years experience, including working in the NHS and for the Ambulance service. She is a qualified supervisor and trainer. Jean now concentrates on her private psychotherapy practice and running Continuous Professional Development groups for counsellors to learn about Attachment theory and its relevance to clinical work. Jean feels Attachment theory is a useful addition for counsellors from any background

Working with Addiction ====Fully booked!! but details for other another addiction course can be found here ====
During this workshop Angela will consider the word ‘Addiction’ and what it means to be an ‘Addict’. She will then look at the Cycle of Progression of Addiction and the effect it has on the family. Drawing on clinical material she will demonstrate how to recognise Addiction and talk through options for working therapeutically.
Angela Cottam is a UKCP accredited psychotherapist and an accredited addiction counsellor in private practice in Fernhurst, Haslemere. She has been extensively involved in the field of Addiction which has included working at The Priory Hospital. Angela has also worked as a psychotherapist at St Thomas’s Hospital in London.
Places on the Addiction training day are limited to 25.
