 The Masons Arms 1 Bacup Road Tel: 01706 819180 Licensees: Glyn & Gary Schofield Glyn and Gary Schofield are two brothers who have long harboured plans to go into the pub trade together. Both have been career soldiers, Glyn left the Army in 1991 and now that Gary is just coming to the end of his time, they have decided to act on their ambition. The brothers hold to the traditional values of honesty, loyalty, and commitment. They believe that if they provide a consistently high standard of service, and concentrate on meeting customer requirements, then the results will speak for themselves. Their thoughts:
Having worked out of the country for many years, we have been disappointed to see how many good local pubs have been swallowed up by the big pub companies, whose primary concern seems to be making as much profit as possible on the backs of hardworking landlords, and customers paying through the nose for sub-standard beer. We decided that we wanted a place that embraced all the traditions of the old fashioned northern pub, where we could provide quality ales in a friendly environment, whilst allowing us the scope to give something back to the customer. It is heartening to see the resurgence of real ale in the UK, especially to see how more and more people are supporting the smaller independent breweries. Copper Dragon Brewery is at the forefront of the drive towards real ales, as is evident by its solid reputation and fast growing popularity. When we first met Steve Taylor, the MD of Copper Dragon, we were immediately taken by his straightforward and honest approach. He is a man who believes in providing quality real ales, and working hand in hand with the landlord to ensure that the customer receives the highest standards of product and service. When we first looked at the Masons Arms we were delighted with what we saw and heard. We are committed to upholding the good reputation that the Masons Arms already has as an excellent real ale local. We intend to fully support the established teams and events and are looking forward to meeting the regulars, especially seeing Peg Leg for the first time! We would like to congratulate Steve and Karen on all they have done for the Masons Arms and pass on our personal thanks for their help. They have our best wishes for the future and we hope they keep in touch.
