About
CPRE.
CPRE
is the Campaign to Protect Rural England. It is a national
charity that helps people to protect their local countryside
where there is threat, to enhance it where there is opportunity,
and to keep it beautiful, productive and enjoyable for everyone.
It has 60,000 supporters and a branch in nearly every county.
The head office is in London. Our Patron is Her Majesty the
Queen and Sir Max Hastings is our President....more
The
43 County Branches are independent charities, run by their
own executive committee. National office coordinates the Branch
network, provides advice and information, and receives back
local input which informs national decision-making and strengthens
its ability to influence both national and local government
policy. There is also a regional structure, in our case, the
West Midlands....more

How
Do We Operate to Protect
the Countryside?
We
try to achieve our objectives in many different ways-
- We
support national campaigns by publicising local examples
of the issues
- We
issue press releases to newspapers, radio and television
- We
set up our stall at shows and fetes throughout the area
to get over our messages as well as to recruit new members
- We
make representations to national, regional and local organisations
which are setting and reviewing planning policies
- We
seek to influence land use planning, transport and environmental
policies
- We
receive details of all planning applications in the area
and make representations and objections when we believe
policies are being breached
- We
appear at planning appeals hearings and inquiries to press
the views of the Branch
- We
help to organise public meetings to try to maximise support
- We
employ paid staff to deal with administration and all our
work
- We
have an office in Warwick where we plan our work
- We
have many volunteers who help to do all these things......more

Issues
There
are many key issues at national level, but also issues which
affect our region or local areas. National issues at the moment
include campaigning against a Government policy document which
proposes some drastic changes to the land use planning system
and telephone masts. Local issues include review of regional
planning guidance and a number of local policies. The future
of farming is also critical to the fiture of the countryside.....more

Threats
Rural
England is always under threat. The people behind these threats
do not usually intend to damage the countryside or the environment
but this will be a product of their schemes for development.......
Current
threats include road-building, urban sprawl, developments
in green belts and areas of outstanding natural beauty, telephone
masts and proposed changes to planning procedures and policies.
