Housing
- Regional Planning Review
In October 2007 the West Midlands Regional Assembly
sent its proposals for housing targets for the period 2006
to 2026 to the minister.
The figure for Coventry is 33,500. It will be impossible to
achieve the targets without building on greenfield sites or
even in the green belt.
But in October 2008, the Nathaniel Lichfield Report, commissioned
by the Government, recommended that this figure should remain
at 33,500.
The
Examination in Public of the draft Regional Spatial Strategy
was completed in June 2009 and the final report is awaited.
The Coalition Government has announced that the regional government office will be abolished and replaced by some form of Local Partnership. The current situation is therefore uncertain. (August 2010)
Core Strategy
The discussion of the Core Strategy for Coventry includes controversial proposals for expansion into the Green Belt to the north and south. Expansion into Warwickshire is suggested at Keresley and Finham areas. This has roused intense opposition. We await to see the effect of the election in May 2010 on planning and housing policies.
