Hedgerows Survey
We are
continuing with a project to record
all the hedges in the county ...
We
have been working with Warwickshire Wildlife Trust for some
time to record all the hedges in the county. We have now recorded
over 500 hedges. This is a very long job because it is necessary
to record the number of plant species in each hedge in order
to determine how important it is.

Involving Young People
A special training is planned for 16th June 2010, when 60 young volunteers 16 to 19 years old will attend with their own leaders who will be responsible for them. This organised by Be Involved, a Youth Volunteer Organisation.
Training
Training
in identification of hedgerow plant identification has been
given to a number of volunteers and they have spent many days
on the task. The purpose of each day is to equip volunteers
with the skills to undertake basic hedgerow surveying . We
also hope that it will be an interesting, fun and entertaining
day where you will be able to meet new people and learn about
the countryside in general.
Please make sure you bring suitable outdoor clothes as part
of the day will be held outside. Please also bring a note
book and pencil.

Hedges
are a vital part of our landscape. We see them in various
states of management from the newly planted to ones which
have been uprooted as past redemption - of course we want
them replanted soon. The different styles of cutting and laying
add to the interest of the great range of species growing
in the hedges.
Also
we value the plants, insects and other animals which live
at the feet of the hedges. These vary through the seasons
and add to the varying experience. |
