Local Planning

British Waterways

We are concerned about the fate of historic buildings alongside the canals as British Waterways struggles with financial pressures. BW appears to be selling off lock cottages and other buildings. BW has a generally good record of conserving canalside structures and we believe that sale of such properties to the private sector will lead to less stringent control by local authorities. This could could lead to a sad loss to much of Warwickshire where many miles of canals traverse the county.

The threat becomes more intense when we hear that British Waterways is likely to become a Third Sector body, perhaps similar to the National Trust, where income may become more unpredictable.

Travellers' Sites

There has been an increase in travellers moving onto sites, especially in the Green Belt, and commencing development work to create a permanent caravan site. An application has been submitted for Pathlow and injunctions have been obtained to prohibit further work at Meriden, Beausale and Hampton on the Hill until the planning applications have been decided.

Planning in the county is in the hands of a number of our volunteers who look after a specific area of the county ...
