Solihull Planning
The Branch
is involved with planning in and around Solihull ...
here are a few issues ...
Housing
- Regional Planning Review
In October 2007 the West Midlands Regional Assembly
sent its proposals for housing targets for the period 2006
to 2026 to the minister.
The figure for Solihull is 7,600. It will be impossible to
achieve the targets without building on greenfield sites or
even in the green belt.
But in October 2008, the Nathaniel Lichfield Report, commissioned
by the Government, recommended that this figure should jump
to as much as 20,600 which is more than twice the original
proposal. This would be large increase of in the housing stock.
The difference would have to be achieved by an extension of
Solihull town out into the countryside.
The
Examination in Public of the draft Regional Spatial Strategy
was completed in June 2009 and the final report is awaited.

Motorway
Service Area at Catherine-de-Barnes - Although
the Secretary of State said he was minded to grant the application
in 2001 it was decide to hold another Public Inquiry which
is due to end in June 2008.
Birmingham
Airport -
The current proposal is to extend the runway by around 400
metres; this will require the A45 road to be rerouted. The
impact on the green belt, the surrounding land and the surrounding
villages is being evaluated.
Farm
Diversification - We are concerned about conversion
of barns to craft workshops because they may turn into shopping
and entertainment centres.
