Channel 5 relay

Back in the cold water again!

Welcome to information on our Channel Swim relay scheduled for September 2006 but took place on July 20th!

The idea for the attempt came from Mike Denbigh, a parent of 3 children at Ide Hill School. His wife Liz Denbigh had supported Julian Critchlow (another parent!) in his solo crossing in 2004

We are raising funds for 2 very deserving charities:

The national charity is Starlight Children's Foundation. This charity brightens the lives of seriously and terminally ill children in order to take their minds off the pain, fear and isolation of their illness. It was founded when actress Emma Samms and her cousin Peter Samuelson took a boy who was suffering from leukaemia to Disneyland. Starlight has grown from this single act of kindness to become one of the UK's largest wish granting charities. Click on the first image to the left if you would like more details.

The local charity is The Governor's Appeal for Ide Hill CoE Primary School. This school is a small school with around 100 children which is at the heart of the village community. It is an excellent school with dedicated teachers and great inspection results. But as a small school it has very limited funds for anything other than the essentials (i.e. teachers!). The Governor's Fund tries to raise funds to provide some of the resources that larger schools would have access to such as Electronic Whiteboards for the 3 classes and IT equipment for the lab. I hope you agree that these are both great charities. If they weren't then we wouldn't have got into 7C water on April 29th when we started our cold water training!! On the right are some photo galleries detailing our training - in pool & in Dover Harbour and on the day of the swim. You'll be able to feel how cold it is from the photos!
