The Crosby Bridge Healthy Living Project, funded by the Big Lottery, is a community led health improvement initiative co-ordinated by community, voluntary and statutory
organisations.
Crosby is one of the most deprived areas in North Lincolnshire. According to health and social statistics,
local residents suffer from poor health and social exclusion.
A Health Needs Assessment
between 1996 and 1998 identified key issues to address and through further consultation with Crosby residents, these issues
have been translated into a number of practical projects:
Food and Health (North Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust) The development of a range of community
led activities to address barriers to healthier eating and increase the knowledge and skills of individuals with regard to
food and health issues. Projects include Food & Health programmes, community gardening and an on going programme of ‘hands
on’ performing and visual art activities.

Young People and Open Spaces (North Lincolnshire Council) The provision of physical activity
and play sessions, a multi-use games area, youth shelters and pocket parks to deal with the needs and concerns of young people
in Crosby and address social inclusion.

Seth Mannd (Apna Sahara) The encouragement activities including physical activity in the Black
Minority Ethnic Community and on-going support to improve fitness and well-being. Volunteers will be encouraged to take
responsibility for the development and sustainability of these activities.

Mental Health (North Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust) Positive mental health promotion through
the provision of a range of activities including a volunteer befriending scheme and stress management and relaxation courses. Staff:

support, safety and self-help initiatives including welfare rights advice, home safety, personal safety and neighbourhood
