My name is Derek Martin. I am currently on holiday in Cumbria.
Staying at a splendid residence at Whelpo, outside Caldbeck Village,
called Swaledale Watch. The proprietors are Arnold and Nan Savage.
So
far, I have walked the heights of Helvelyn with friends. Also,
Catbells and High Pike.
Yesterday, whilst driving to
Orstwaite, for a few moments I was literally 15 yards from a bird of
prey. It happened whilst I pulled the car over to let another
through in the narrow lane. At that moment, I glanced straight at this large
bird which was perched on a post. It was approx 18" tall; brown and
with a fearsome beak. Unfortunately, I had not packed my cameras.
So, no evidence!
