Avoriaz Testimonials Chris has been a busy boy - and dug out these testimonials for us. He also found this cool picture of Avoriaz : Nathalie

(Belgium, 12 Oct 2001): Hey, I'm a 17-year old girl from Belgium and I
just love Avoriaz. It's very varied and one of the bests snowboard places
I've been. 'The place' is cool, though the people overthere wasn't really
my type. But I really like Avoriaz, so see you next year!!!* Oscar
Bal
(Netherlands): Absolutely great, this area! 650 km of piste, all levels of
runs. Specially recommended for the best skiers of the world: 'Domaine de
Super-Noires', 4 great and heavy black runs, just above Avoriaz. And if
this is not enough, 'The Wall' will do the trick. The Wall is one of the
steepest runs in Europe. Be careful, this one can be very dangerous! Avoriaz/Les
Portes du Soleil, is one of the nicest areas. Trine
(Denmark): Avoriaz is by far the best skiing resort I've ever been to.
Started there as a beginner and have come back again and again !! Try it
!! Simon
& Lisa
(England): Snowboarders! Are you sick of resorts full of runs where you
spend hours walking? Sick of resorts that advertise a snowboard park, only
to find they mean those three tiny ramps next to the nursery slope? Sick
of resorts where most of the lifts are buttons? Or where 60% of the pistes
are only accessible if you come back on a nightmare button that pulls
strong men into the air (you know who you are, Flaine!)? Then go to
Avoriaz! Hundreds
of pistes with next to no flat bits, a seriously good park (including
yellow Volkswagen for those of you riding someone else's board) - plus
other parks in nearby resorts (try Chatel) and hardly a drag lift in
sight. If you like bashing powder between trees, it's heaven. If you like
charging down wide blue/red runs, it's heaven. If you like picking your
way down a black run covered in man-size moguls, it's heaven. If you like
ramps, jumps, etc. - well, you get the idea. The one and only caveat is -
the halfpipe. Poor. But be honest - how many of you REALLY use it? In
short, this has got to be as near to Nirvana as a resort gets for people
who prefer to slide sideways. Go there now! Ovide
(Belgium): We did snowboard in Avoriaz a week ago. Le Mur is an excellent
run for the better boarders. As a souvenir we took the "black
run" sign from "Le Mur" with us. Sorry guys, It was a
students-joke. It was a big effort at 3.00 A.M. Avoriaz has a great night
life if you are a girl, but unfortunately we aren't. About 90% are guys.
The place and La Cabane are nice but don't stay there every night. The
little french girls are a bit afraid of tall Belgian guys like us. We will
go there next year and we promise not to steal the new "le Mur"
sign. Tuan-Anh:
I was in Avoriaz with a couple of friends in January 1998. The weather was
superb, lots of snow and son too. Avoriaz is a small French town, but they
have enough means to keep you busy. There are a lot of ski-pistes, 650 km
of pistes, and that was not a lie! Green, blue, red and black. For each
level there are suitable ski-pistes. In short Avoriaz is the place to be!
Maybe you've seen me in action (I was the little guy, low-flying on the
piste and making strange noises). Oh, you do recognize me now? Well, It's
because I was having fun. Darja
Jarosova:
Me and my family spent a beautiful week (January 99) in Avoriaz. Weather
was excellent, the sun was shining and the temperature was about 5 degrees
above zero. Maximum comfort for skiers. There are three ski lifts
throughout the village. Pistes were in good form all the time, even if we
were in every part of Portes du Soleil, we didn't ski all the pistes. They
had many pubs, bars not only in the village, but in the whole ski area.
people were very friendly. We will go back to Avoriaz next year ! Nina
Afshar
(England): I've just come back from spending a week in Avoriaz over New
Year (1999)..It was fantastic! There wasn't loads of snow but that didn't
spoil it one little bit! It is a massive ski area (you could go back 5
years in a row and still not cover it all! It's a lovely town with no cars
spoiling it (only horse dung!) Katsaris
Nikos
(Athens, Greece): Being already 4 times in Avoriaz I can assure you that
you have to go there if you want to learn how to ski or if you want to
improve your skills. It is the perfect place for skiers. No cars in the
streets which are fully covered by snow, one can do shopping wearing the
skis on! I live in Greece <http://www.goski.com/greece.htm>
and I think that Avoriaz is the place you should visit, no matter how far
away you live. It is the ultimate skiing experience and I would like to be
there for the rest of my life, which is highly impossible... Stuart
Mc Laren
(Edinburgh, Scotland): My family and I have been to Avoriaz five times now
and find it a excellent resort for all the family. I am a good
intermediate as is my daughter (18). My son is a fanatical snowboarder
(15) and my wife likes a little skiing but spends a lot of time in the
resort as well. Snow conditions are guaranteed and although we have skiied
in many other european resorts and New Zealand nowhere is like Avoriaz.
Unlimited runs, great snowpark, good night life and reasonable prices make
it wery attractive for a family holiday. I can never understand why people
stay in Morzine <http://www.goski.com/rfr/morzine.htm>
and daily take the cablecar to Avoriaz when they could stay in Avoriaz and
ski down as well as go up from the resort. Sara
Castro Zubizarreta
(Santander, Cantabria, Spain): I´m spanish and I´m studying at the
University. Last year I stayed in Avoriaz with my family, I spent only a
week there but it was fantastic! I met many people and some new friends.I
took a lot of photographs, the place is wonderful. I really want to go
another time but this time with my friends! Rene
Faurskov:
I went to Avoriaz last New Year with one of my friends, my third time, it
was the best place you can ski, especially Le Crosats and Le Mur, Le
Crosats is one of the highest pistes in Avoriaz and it is a very daring
offpiste. Le Mur is one great knucklepiste, very long and at the end there
is a long straight piece where your legs just melt. Go There. Luke
Gee:
My friends and I are going back to Avoriaz for the third year running. I
am a snowboarder and Avoriaz truly kicks ass. Wicked flowing pistes for
you speed freaks, phat off piste powder (if you're brave enough) and a
truly funky park for you who like grabbing air. The massive linked piste
area will have you exploring totally different runs for weeks. There seems
to be no end. We boarded some of the black Swiss runs and they were so
extreme I still talk about it in hushed tones. I fully recommend Avoriaz
and me and my dudes will be there from 31.1.98 to sample the mentalness of
it all. Be there, it will change your life! Alambert22:
I had the most wonderful experience about 20 years ago. I was an aupair
and I was lucky enough to be able to spend a week at Avoiraz with my
French family and it was the most charming little French village I had
ever been to other than Courbevoie...The best part is the skiing, and then
the sleigh rides though the village with no car fumes.. very peaceful and
beautiful especially at night when you see the golden hue of lights over
the ski village... Absolutely a wonderful memory! I get to go back this
January.. can't wait. Frank:
Last year I broke my arm in Avoriaz and this year I will go skiing
again...in Avoriaz! Tomas
Vanecek:
Avoriaz is located at 1,800m in the Haute-Savoie region of France, very
close to the Swiss border. I was there from the 10th to 17th of January
1997. The weather was exellent and the sun shined all week. The nice thing
about this place is that skiing is possible in both countries. Although
Avoriaz is a very small village where cars are not allowed, the town is a
part of "Les Portes du Soleil". This system of ski resorts
offers almost unlimited skiing on several mountains for all levels. It
could be tricky to figure where to go, but free shuttle buses are there to
save you if you get to some distant village. Avoriaz offers a very good
combination of night life and skiing possibilities, so if you are tired of
of snobby places like St. Moritz and Aspen, Avoriaz is a very relaxing
alternative. Magnum
Coltrane Price:
I´m a snowboarder since 1987 and Avoriaz is one of the phattest resorts
in Europe for snowboarding. I'm talking about the planning of all the on
and off piste skiing/boarding. The night life is so-so, but if you like to
party with different kinds a people, the Avoriaz crowd is really mixed, and
I like that! I've been boarding in France, Austria
<http://www.goski.com/austria.htm>, Canada <http://www.goski.com/canada.htm> and the U.S.
<http://www.goski.com/usa.htm> but I've always returned
to Avoriaz... it´s just dope ass riding. This spring of 97 will be my 5th
time in Avoriaz and I let that speak for itself. Go
there! Torsten
Wredmark:
I snowboarded in Avoriaz last winter - it is the best skistation I've been
to. The snow is great (almost as good as in Sweden
<http://www.goski.com/sweden.htm>) and it has one of the
best snowparks I have ever visited. The nightlife was good too but quite
expensive for a poor snowboarder coming from Sweden. I will return there
this winter with my best friends... it will kick ass. I promise you!! Avoriaz rules for snowboard. (p.s.
I've been snowboarding for 7 years now ,so I know what I'm talking about.
Hahahahaha). Good place for good snowboarders. See ya all down there.
