MATA (Mediation And Training Alternatives) was formed in
January 2002. The purpose was to create a community-based
business that is centred on commercial mediation, both in
practice and in training, and was also person-driven rather
than profit-driven.
Central to MATA's aims is the practice and training of
people in dispute avoidance and in the positive approaches
to conflict; and if problems do escalate into disputes, to
manage and resolve the disputes quickly and
cost-effectively without going to court.
In addition to the founder members, MATA has alliances
with other trainers who have signed up to the founding principles and to the membership conditions to form a
teaching community that aims for the highest quality
of service and training. A list of members is also available on the
website.
