Mediator Training / The Mediation Alternative

Five day total imersion in mediation run in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Those wanting accreditation as a commercial mediator go on to a further two assessment days by independent faculty.

Advanced Mediator Retreat

(6th - 12th September 2009 Italy/Australia)

This residential course is designed to develop and deepen the skills of mediators who already have experience in mediating commercial disputes. It is open to all mediators, whether lawyers or not, and experience is more important than qualification. The course builds on the foundation skills and processes of civil and commercial mediation.

Lawyers in Mediation

(in-house)

Two day workshop, the first on basics, the second on polishing the skills and strategies. The second day can also be run as four two-hour sessions for Lawyers choosing, advising, advocating and negotiating in Mediation.

Specialist Construction training Course for Mediators in association with TeCSA and also with The Bar and Law Society of Denmark

(UK)

This course is to give specialised training for mediating disputes in the construction sector. The faculty coaches participants in case studies of increasing complexity and each participant has the opportunity to mediate.

Negotiating Across Cultures

Two-day course on negotiating international deals and mediating cross-border disputes. Co-led by Joanna Kalowski who is an expert in cultural issues particularly establishing understanding and co-operation in situations of cultural diversity.

Mediation Masterclass


(5th February, 5th March, 2nd April and 7th May 2009 from 16:30 - 18:30)

As part of the Advanced Mediator training programme MATA have run a series of four master classes each year open to both practising mediators and non-mediator guests where a prominent mediator is interviewed and some techniques of this mediator are identified and put into practice in interactive workshops.

Tony Curtis Debates

(2nd October, 30th October and 4th December 2008 from 16:30 - 18:30)

As part of the MATA winter programme there will be a series of three debates open to both practising mediators and non-mediator guests. The motions are ADR centered comprising four speakers and an open floor forum with a vote held at the close.

The Debates this season are:

2nd Oct 2008: Court Schemes are bad for the profession.
30th Oct 2008: Mediation trainers should stop training mediators.
4th Dec 2008: Mediation is not the place for Rottweilers.
