These are dances that I have collected and called since the seventies. They are yours to use how you will

(1) Hamishe’s Fancy


32 Bar jigs or reels. Longways, preferably 5 couples.

A1. Forward and back and cross over.
A2. Top couple gallop to bottom and back, they then give each over right hand to start grand chain, ladies passing men giving
right and lefts.
When top couple reach bottom they make an arch. Others go outside them, coming back up through arch.
A4 All swing

(2) Up the sides and down the middle


Four or five Couples longways proper 32 bar jigs or reels

A1 Balance in line holding hands
A2 Cross over, ladies going beneath arches formed by mens joined hands
A1 Balance in line holding hands
A2 Cross back over, ladies going beneath arches formed by mens joined hands
B1 Top couple make a single handed arch and walk slowly to bottom of set,
2s cast followed by others and come up arch back to place
B2 All Swing

(3) Virginia Reel


32 Bars Jigs (quick) Circle Men in middle, facing partners

A1 Left hand turn Partner Right hand Turn Partner
A2 Two hand turn and Doci do
B1 Balance Partner, Swing Partner
B2 Promenade anti clockwise, all the men move on to the next lady



(4) Bridge of Athlone


48 Bar Jigs (Cock of the north) 5 couples (4 or six will work) Long ways Proper

A1 All forward and back in lines holding hands
All Cross over, ladies under mens arch, and turn.
A2 Forward and back again, cross over again
A3 Top couple gallop down and back, others clap
A4 Tops then cast followed by others, tops form arch at bottom, others go through
A5 All others now form arch, Top lady (at bottom) goes up through arch, gent goes up outside,
Gent goes down middle, lady down outside
A6 All swing (8 Bar swing)


(5) Waves of Tory


48 Bar Jigs 5 couples Men on your right Long ways Proper

A1 Couples 1 & 2, 3 & 4 right hand star, bottom couple right hand turn, all forward and back in lines holding hands
A2 Couples 1 & 2, 3 & 4 left hand star, bottom couple left hand turn, all forward and back in lines holding hands
A3 Top couple gallop down and back, others clap
A4 Tops then cast followed by others, tops form arch at bottom, others go through
A5 All others now form arch face down towards top couple,

Top couple start dipping and diving, others joining in as top couple ‘activates them.
All end up where they started to dip and dive in their progressed position.
Note: couples must always dive when coming in at end of set


(6) Nottingham Swing


Longways for as many as will Horn pipes

Number couples: ones have their backs to band, 2s face band.

A1 No 1 man, no 2 lady right hand turn, taking a right arm elbow grip. STEP HOP, STEP HOP Etc.
A2 No 2 man, no 1 lady right hand turn, taking a right arm elbow grip STEP HOP, STEP HOP Etc.
A3. No 1 couples face down away from band and walk three steps down,
turn single walk three steps back to where they started.
Cast out around twos; drop in below them to take their place.
A4. Ladies cross hands, gents hold partners in short cross handed grip.
All swing partners with step hop

Repeat dance but note all ones have new 2s, couples at extreme end of set miss one time through and then come in as opposite number.

Five couple set longways proper 48 bar Jigs

A1 First couple gallop down middle of set, at bottom cross with partner, come back up out side to top of set
B1 Top lady leads off men around behind her partner and other ladies
B2 Top man then leads off ladies behind his partner and other men
C1, 2 Top couple strip willow to bottom
A2 All swing

(8) The Willow Tree


Eight couple long ways proper 48 Bar Jigs

A1 Top couple gallop to bottom, man leaves partner and takes bottom lady back to place.
A2 Bottom man takes top lady back and gallops to bottom with own partner.
B1, 2 Both these end couples then strip willow till they meet at centre of set.
They then form arches by forming a circle and holding hands up.
A1 New end couples cast out, go into side arches, meet own partner , come out at own end
A2 All swing

(9) Drops of Brandy


4 or 5 Couples longways proper Slip jigs step hop

A1 Top couple turn one and a half turns then man strips the willow to bottom of set.
A2 Lady strips to top of set
B1 Both strip to bottom, of set
B4 Next couple start stripping when first couple half way down joint strip

10) Stoke Golding Country Dance


Five couple set long ways proper 32 bar Jigs

A1 Top man swing bottom lady
A2 Bottom man swings top lady
B1 Top couple strip to bottom
B2 first man inside, leads his partner over heads of others all around set
and then throws her up to top of set to swing new top man

A1 Face opposite, balance forward and back, change places. Face partners and repeat
A2 Face opposite, balance forward and back, change places. Face partners and repeat.
A3 &4 Hands in ring of four, balance in and out pass lady from left to right, repeat four times till back to place.
A5 Waltz around opposite couple and change places

(18) Circle Waltz


Circle 32 Bar waltz

A1 Hands in circle, Waltz one step in, one out pass girl from left to right hand.
Repeat three times
A2 Face fourth girl, take both her hands balance in and out ,turn single

Circle, Each trio radiating as spokes from the centre of a wheel

A 1 Skip round anti clockwise holding hands (sixteen steps)

B2 The two ladies take one step forward, make an arch using both hands, the man dances through the arch, around the inside lady, through the arch around the outside lady, through the arch and onto the next pair of ladies

A3 &4 Men Step to each other then Partner
Repeat four times then swing on extra B

One Gent Two Ladies, each trio forming the side of a square

A1 Head trios go forward and back, then forward the ladies swapping over and going back with the opposite man.

B2 Men swing lady on right, then lady on right, then jump into next mans position on right.

Identify and number couples (couple no. one nearest band etc)

A1 All circle left holding hands (4 Bars so quick), single file back the other way
A2 All hold hands and into the middle (yelling), repeat
B1 Active couple, only, crosses over, go between opposite couple, cross with partner, weave through other dancers on way home
B2 All swing corner lady, (the one next to you who is not your partner) Swing Partners.
