Dirty River - acoustic rock

The Studio

Our air-conditioned digital recording facility is based around the very latest Digidesign Pro Tools LE / Digi 002 configuration. It is a simple setup that works very well & provides a very high definition 24bit/192Khz recording.

Pro Tools LE - Simple But Effective

We have a good size fully soundproofed Live Room, which is about 18 foot by 30 foot. It has a floating wooden floor made up of individual 24 inch square wooden tiles, which works well from an isolation point of view. There are a couple of really nice sweet spots for recording. As well as the Live Room we have a separate, dedicated Vocal or Isolation Booth and a comfortable 12 foot by 20 foot Control Room.

To make life bearable there is a small (a good adjective there) kitchen with tea, coffee, fridge & microwave. Then theres the all-important toilet, washroom & shower, which is useful for waking yourself up when on the graveyard shift.

We have a wide range of carefully selected microphones and some incredible instruments to hand. Click on Equipment over on the right & we'll show you some of our toys. We have also got a bit of a habit of acquiring new toys on a bit too frequent a basis.

Some Bloody Good Advice

We are here to deal with all kinds of budgets, both large and small. We have a simple philosophy to suggest you spend more time up front in pre-production (your end - in the practice room) and then spend the studio time recording a quality demo.

The most common problem with recording is where a band or artist has a small budget and wants to record a dozen songs. Why not record two or three well thought out and produced songs. Ask yourself truthfully what will impress an A&R or fan more, twelve hurried & therefore poorly produced tracks or three really well produced tracks ?

A three song demo is there to show others what you are capable of. It should be as good as possible so that promoters will realise that you are just the right act for their venues. With a little hard work a two or even three song demo can be nailed in a day. Obviously that depends on how many instruments are used.

A good commercial CD can be a source of income for several years, so it is worth spending time getting every detail just right. It always depends on how well prepared the band is. We would expect to spend at least a week in the studio to produce a twelve track album for a standard four piece band.

The bottom line is that we'll help you maximise your studio budget pennies to get the reaction you need from the fans or Industry you want to impress.

We can also mix & produce tracks that have been recorded in a home studio, a practice room or in other studios. We can mix your project to make the record sound it's best. We can also burn data discs of the recorded parts so that they can be worked on elsewhere and on other systems.

Rehearsals Before Recording

You're going to get more out of your recording if you are well rehearsed & the songs are already written to include an intro and a solid ending. In order to prepare for your recording session, we can even help by offering the recording studio out as a rehearsal room - at a competitive rate of £15 per hour, which includes the hire of drums, amps & PA. If you would like to make a simple stereo recording of your rehearsal session this can also be arranged for a nominal fee, give us a shout to discuss it.
