- JAR-PPL
The JAR-PPL is a 45 hour course allowing the licence holder to fly in visual meteorological conditions (VMC) throughout Europe. Although the 45 hours is a minimum, many students require extra tuition to get up to standards for the final flying test. There are 7 ground exams to complete although there is no need to worry about these as ground school is available and an instructor is always happy to assist you with any problems. You are also required to have by minimum, a Class 2 medical available from a CAA Authorised Medical Examiner, for a full list of these doctors, just ask for assistance at the ops desk in the clubhouse. For more information on this course and the full syllabus, go to the publications by scrolling down or phone us on 01404 891 643.

- NPPL
The National PPL is a 32 hour course allowing the licence holder to fly simple (non-retractable, fixed pitch prop) aircraft in visual meteorological conditions (VMC) in the UK alone. The NPPL was brought out with the average person in mind who just wanted to fly light aircraft as a hobby at a relatively lower cost. There are 7 ground exams for this course, and as stated above, there is no need to worry as ground school is available and instructors are always happy to help out. A medical is still required for this licence although, your GP can sign a declaration to say that you are fit to fly (The equivalent to a HGV medical). - Tailwheel Conversion
More information coming soon. Please see the publications below.

- Night Rating
The night rating is available to holders of a JAR-PPL allowing them to fly after the hours of sunset. The course involves a minimum of 5 hours night flying and at least 1 of the 5 hours, dual navigation as well as 5 solo take off and landings. There are no exams for this rating and there is no final test, you are certified to fly at night once the instructor is satisfied you are competent to. For more information on this course and the full syllabus, go to the publications by scrolling down or phone us on 01404 891 643.

- IMC Rating
The IMC rating is available to holders of a JAR-PPL and allows them to fly in instrument meteorological conditions (IMC). There is a written exam for this as well as a final test. The IMC rating is only valid within the UK and the holder still cannot fly IMC in Class A airspace. For more information on this course and the full syllabus, go to the publications by scrolling down or phone us on 01404 891 643.

- AOPA Flying Companions Course
The AOPA Flying Companions Course is based on those people who regularly take a partner flying and involves 8 hours dual flying. The course covers the basics of aircraft operation and navigation allowing the partner to not only increase there enjoyment, participation and confidence in the flying but in the case of pilot incapacitation, they would be able to safely land the aircraft again. Training News
- New Air Traffic Services
From the 12th March 2009, the UK's ATSOCAS changes. Click here to download the leaflet on the new services available.
- "STUDENT" Prefix
As a result of a civil aircraft accident involving a student pilot, the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) recommended the introduction of a callsign prefix to signify a student pilot flying solo. The CAA has accepted this recommendation. The use of the callsign prefix 'STUDENT' is now reflected in CAP 413 Radiotelephony Manual, and CAP 493 Manual of Air Traffic Services (MATS) Part 1 which will also provide associated guidance to air traffic service providers.
For example:
Pilot transmission: 'London Information Student G-ABCD request Basic service'
ATS unit: 'Student G-ABCD London Information pass your message'
Flight Instructors will brief students, specifically, on the use of this callsign prefix as part of their pre-solo briefing. The use of this callsign prefix is not intended to remove the additional requirement for flight instructors to notify ATSU's separately of 'first solo' flights where this is normal practice.
