Replacement to DC
Spring - Autumn
Newsletter 2008

In the next 2 - 6 weeks we may have to close our doors….

Forever!

At the moment of writing the future of Dyspraxia Connexion, Low Mill and Walesby camp
holidays, youth club, computer club, movement group, adult support group, helpline, information, newsletter, drop in days, support and training (for carers and professionals) looks bleak.

At current our funds are really low (practically empty) and as such our only member of staff is due to leave very soon followed by everything that the members have built up over the years.

DC started in a very humble way with a few parents meeting over coffee and soon grew year on year until we (DC and its members) had our own building to take calls from upset/confused
parents, carers and professionals and help them on their way with information and guidance. Soon we had a drop in day for the above and those with dyspraxia, followed by staff to visit people, sit in on meetings with G.P's and educational professionals as well as providing training on and around dyspraxia, then a youth worker to provide clubs and activities for dyspraxic
children and a mentoring project worker to help with the adult support group.

We have provided so much to such a lot of people in the form of
information and support yet it looks like its over.

We would be happy if we weren't needed but that really isn't the case.

Still the helpline rings with people in a "state", children still benefit from mixing with others with similar problems (as well as the adults) and get a real boost from our residential holidays,
professionals still order information packs, and people still just drop in to bend an ear or pick up a few leaflets. The current clubs are still well attended - the Drama Club being a real success.

We know there is still more we can do, including:

  • The children have requested a Chat Room
  • our Therapy Centre still needs to get up and running
  • we want to be able to offer Life Skills training
  • Movement Club needs the opportunity to be resurrected
  • We are now aware just how much more help our adults require in helping them through college, finding social lives, learning improved life skills etc.
