About Us

                 DYSPRAXIA CONNEXION

The Dyspraxia Connexion (formerly Notts. Dyspraxia Foundation) was founded in 1993 by two mothers hoping to raise awareness of dyspraxia, the implications upon the child and family, and to find practical help for those who had dyspraxia.

Our first support meeting was held in 1993 attended by five mothers. We now mail to over 550 families in Nottinghamshire. As dyspraxia affects about 2% of the population our services are in much demand. The ethos of our group remains the same as when formed.

All of our services have been founded on consultation with our members and service users. In 2001 it was decided that we change our name and seek charitable status as an independent charity through such consultations. Our business plan was also formulated from these meetings.

The emphasis on activities for those who have dyspraxia is on forming friendships through socialising opportunities and having the opportunity to gain new skills. We also encourage them to take part in decision-making and to assist in moving the group forward. Many of our older participants have become role models for the younger ones thus proving affective in increasing the self-esteem of both parties.
