Wind Farms

Wind farms and radio/radar systems don't mix...at least that's what some people tell us. In fact the two can co-exist quite peacefully in most cases - provided the right measurers are taken. ECS can provide expert advice on these issues.

Wind farms can cause several potential problems to radio and radar systems. However, most can be readily resolved if the problem is properly understood. ECS has extensive radio systems skills combined with knowledge of environmental impact issues that can be used to find solutions.

Case Studies

Meall Mor

Meall Mor is a hill on the Mull of Kintyre. A wind farm was planned close to existing radio masts on top of the hill. Planning Permission was refused due to objections from Strathclyde Police. Working for the wind farm developer, Richard Newstead investigated the problem and proposed a solution that would meet the needs of the windfarm and those of the Police.

Penbreck

The National Air Traffic service NATS/CAA objected to windfarm development 14 kilometres from a key radio and radar installation at Green Lowther. Working for the wind farm developer, Richard Newstead was involved in detailed negotiations to see how the potential problem could be resolved.
